Why we love this tour
You will get to discover the beauty of amazing Pyrenees mountains
A summer visit to an Alpine environment 2000 m above sea level is a pleasant change to your stay in Barcelona. Firstly, we will re-fill our flasks from Sant Gil’s mountain spring at the bank of the lake. We will then hike towards the Puigmal summit (2910 m) and join a circular trail around the valley.
As we climb to the higher sections of the valley we may spot some local wildlife. While soaking in countless breathtaking sceneries and natural elements we may be interrupted by chirping marmots. They are very curious animals and not that difficult to spot. The grazing Pyrenean chamois can be usually spotted right on the tree line. As we start to descent back to the valley, the gorges of the Nuria river will suddenly appear beneath us. And if we look closely enough, we will see the local endemic brown trouts hovering in the stream.

Join our full-day hiking tour in the Catalan Pyrenees. We will pick you up at 8:30 am centrally in Barcelona and then head north to a picturesque village of Queralbs. The special cogwheel train Cremallera will take us to the fabulous Vall de Nuria (1964 m). The iconic hotel and the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Nuria will suddenly appear as we enter the green valley. A place is full of legends, history, and traditions. The very first draft of the Catalan Statute of Autonomy was composed here in 1931. The hotel itself has adopted a very sustainable approach and tries to promote environmental protection to the visitors. The valley is made of several magnificent peaks. The hiking trails go to Puigmal (2910 m), Pic de Finestrelles (2828 m), or Pic de Noufonts (2861 m) to mention some.
As we descent back to the base of the valley, we will look for a perfect picnic area around the lake. You will also have some additional free time to explore the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Nuria, go to the restaurant or to the audio-visual exposition in the hotel. We will then catch our Cremallera back down to Queralbs and return to our meeting point in Barcelona (approx. 7 pm).
