Why we love this tour
You'll walk across the snowy forests and try ice fishing like local!
- Two typical Lappish activites
- Quiet snowy forests
- Small group tour (maximum of 8 travellers)
- Amazing experience of catching your own lunch!

This tour combines two popular activities of the locals: snowshoeing through the forests and ice-fishing on a massive frozen lake, allowing you to enjoy Lapland nature at its best!
After being picked up and provided with adequate winter clothing/boots (it can get as chilly as -30C in Lapland! ), your guide will take you roughly 20 kilometers outside of Rovaniemi to find the ideal tranquil location to begin your journey. You will be given some instructions on how to use the snowshoes and walk on snow before venturing into the woods. You can instantly feel the peace of Lapland nature as you snowshoe through the untouched snowy landscapes.
You'll soon find yourself in a vast open stretch of ice and snow. It's time to look for a good position on the lake to catch your lunch! Your guide will assist you in drilling your own hole in the ice and teach you the fundamentals of ice fishing. Then it's just a matter of time and patience before you start to feel the bites! This is the ideal time to savor the tranquility that pervades the lake.
While you're out fishing, your guide will cut wood and build a fire for you on the beach. Around the fire, some traditional Finnish delicacies and warming beverages will await you, providing a convivial occasion for your guide to answer all of your questions about living in the Arctic and Lapland in general. If you catch a fish (of reasonable size), your guide will gladly prepare it, cook it over an open fire, and add it to the day's dinner! If the fish are small, we will return them to the ice as soon as possible without injuring them.
Then it'll be time to go back on the snowshoes and return to Rovaniemi with memories of this ice-fishing adventure!
In all our excursions, our groups are limited to 8 travelers maximum. It it very important for us to provide you with the best experience as possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. Also, in relation to ice-fishing, keeping our groups small allows our guests to fully experience the peaceful silence of Lapland nature. As we usually say : the smaller the group, the bigger the experience !
