About the period of the Midnight Sun in Rovaniemi: the Midnight Sun is a natural phenomenon that takes place on and above the Arctic Circle in the summer months. On the Arctic Circle, where Rovaniemi lies, the sun officially stays above the horizon for a full 24 hours on summer solstice, 21st or 22nd June. However, the Midnight Sun period in Rovaniemi lasts for a month, from 6th June to 7th July, due to the Earth’s slightly tilted axis and refraction of sunlight. During the few weeks that precede or follow this period (end of May, early August), the sun is still visible very late and early in the night; it offers long sunsets/sunrises with beautiful warm twilight colors, even though it is no longer the so-called Midnight Sun period.

Come enjoy the enchanting beauty of the Midnight Sun with us!

Throughout the year, magnificent natural phenomena emphasize the Arctic's clean and unspoilt landscapes. The famous Northern Lights weave their green and red arches over the celestial skies from Autumn to Spring. The sun never sets in the summer and shines all day and night: this is the Midnight Sun! After a long, dark winter with nearly 6 months of snow on the ground, the land, vegetation, and animals can finally recharge their batteries and relax in the profusion of life that the 24 hour sun gives.

Your professional outdoor guide will take you to a hilltop, lakeside shoreline, or riverbanks, depending on your physical capacity, to enjoy the amazing warm lights of the never-setting sun while enjoying a traditional Finnish snack cooked over an open fire. This is an excellent time for your guide to demonstrate how to make and light a fire with a flint and steel (without the use of matches or lighters!).

They'll also tell you more about Lapland, living in the Arctic, and the phenomena of the Midnight Sun in relation to Rovaniemi's location in the Arctic Circle. The goal of this tour is to be both relaxed and educational. Your guide will gladly share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you, as well as answer any questions you may have... so don't be shy!

There are various fantastic atmospheric optical phenomenon to witness during the Midnight Sun include sundogs, circumzenithal arcs, and other sun-created halos. The phenomenon of the Midnight Sun and its warm rays are also a fantastic chance for photographers, so don't forget to bring your camera along to capture the magnificent colors of nature!

Our groups are limited to a maximum of 8 people on all of our excursions. It is essential for us to give you with the greatest possible experience while avoiding mass tourism. Your guide will get to know you better this way, and will be able to meet all of your needs and answer all of your questions. As we often say, the smaller the group, the greater the adventure!

NOTE: Check out the Midnight Sun Lapland Canoeing or our Wilderness Survival Tour for a more adventurous Midnight Sun experience.
