This tour will take you out of Rovaniemi and into the Taiga forests, where you will be surrounded by gorgeous wildlife. You will discover the wonders of the Lapland forests with your guide, learning about the trees, plants, their qualities, and various creatures... You'll also learn how to make a fire with your surroundings and some other fundamental survival skills!
When you arrive at the start, you will be given a briefing on safety procedures and what to watch for. The Wilderness tour includes varying levels of difficulty depending on your skill; when you are picked up, your guide will discuss this with you and the best path will be selected between you. The Wilderness Survival Tour is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for individuals who want to venture into the woods in search of the elusive Finnish fauna and natural beauty of Lapland. This tour is also meant to be educational: your guide will share his or her expertise and enthusiasm for nature with you, as well as teach you about the secrets of Finnish nature and some basic survival techniques.
The tour is available all year, with different features for each season. During the winter, you'll be treated to views of massive snow drifts, snowy paths, and frozen trees, as well as bitterly cold temperatures that can reach -30°C! The vast and gorgeous woodlands, especially in January, appear to be right out of a storybook! You'll learn about the tracks you see in the snow all around you. The brown bears' paw print is quite stunning, so it's a shame they'll be sleeping... But don't worry, we'll still be able to see wolves, lynxes, wolverines, moose, reindeer, weasels, arctic hares, and other animals' footprints. The trip is also available for summer and autumn, see "Lapland Wilderness Survival".
Halfway through the hike, refreshments and a traditional Finnish barbeque snack will be supplied, and your guide will light a fire to keep you warm. This is an excellent time for your guide to demonstrate how indigenous create fires. There will be no need for matches or lighters because your guide will utilize a flint&steel and natural components collected along the trip!
Our groups are limited to a maximum of 8 participants in all of our events. It is critical for us to give you with the greatest possible experience while avoiding mass tourism. Your guide will get to know you better this way, and will be able to meet all of your needs and answer all of your questions. As we often say, the smaller the group, the greater the adventure!
