The Land of a Thousand Lakes is another nickname for Finland. Lapland is home to a big amount of the country's 188 000 lakes, which add to the beauty of the polar landscape. Throughout the year, magnificent natural phenomena emphasize the clean and unspoilt landscapes here. The famous Northern Lights weave their green and red arches over the celestial skies from Autumn to Spring. The Midnight Sun is when the sun never sets and shines all day and night in the summer.
Paddling on one of Lapland's many lakes and rivers is the best way to enjoy the serene beauty of the Midnight Sun. Your qualified canoe guide will teach you the fundamentals of canoeing and provide you with all necessary safety instructions during this activity. You'll learn how to use the paddles, how to travel on water and guide your canoe, and how to react if your canoe capsizes, among other things. Your guide will keep an eye on you at all times and will assist you if you require assistance.
While paddling, you will be surrounded by the tranquility of nature, with the warm rays of the sun shining brightly in the midst of the night. After a long, dark winter with nearly 6 months of snow on the ground, the land, vegetation, and animals can finally recharge their batteries and relax in the profusion of life that the 24 hour sun gives. As you navigate your canoe across the lake, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself not only in the summer's tranquility, but also to feel entirely integrated into it.
When you return ashore, you'll be greeted by an open fire and a traditional Finnish snack. This is an excellent time for your guide to demonstrate how to make and light a fire with a flint and steel (without the use of matches or lighters!).
They'll also tell you more about Lapland, living in the Arctic, and the Midnight Sun phenomenon. For those of you who are photography enthusiasts, every moment of this tour is a fantastic chance, so don't forget to bring your camera!
Transportation, canoeing and safety lessons, paddling time (1-1h30 depending on your aptitude), and a snack around the fire are all included in the 3-hour excursion. Our groups are limited to a maximum of 8 people on all of our excursions. It is critical for us to give you with the greatest possible experience while avoiding mass tourism. Your guide will get to know you better this way, and will be able to meet all of your needs and answer all of your questions. As we often say, the smaller the group, the greater the adventure!
