7-Days Hiking Tour in Swedish National Parks
Duration: 7 days Medium
Why we love this tour
You'll explore the wonders of Sarek and Padjelanta National Park and Sweedish Lapland during an unique trekking adventure!
- Wonderful wild nature - mountains, fauna and flora
- Protected UNESCO site, entirely virgin and untouched
- Compass orientation off the tourist trails
- Helicopter flight
- Learning about Sámi culture

Trekking enthusiasts will adore Sarek and Padjelanta National Park. These parks are famous all over the world for their spectacular and distinctive mountain landscapes, fauna, and vegetation as well as for the Sami communities who live there and gather their summer grazing reindeer herds.
The location becomes secluded and magical in the winter. This region's dramatic seasonal changes provide enthusiasts with an amazing spectacle all year.
The Unesco site is extremely well-protected, and it is one of the few areas in Europe that is still completely unspoiled, including mountains, valleys, and lakes. The mountain range is good for hiking, seeing flora, and spotting wildlife.
If you want to go on a multi-day journey and test yourself in a gorgeous adventure, take on the challenge and trek in complete autonomy across the three national parks that are adjacent to each other: Sarek, Padjelanta, and Stora Sjöfallet.
Beginning of the journey:
You will be taken care of from Kvikkjokk heliport situated above the polar circle, in the Swedish Lapland. It can be reached via bus from Jokkmokk. We'll assist you in planning your transportation.
We'll meet in the morning to get ready for the next seven days of adventure from Tarraluopal to Ritsem.
We'll then board on a helicopter from Kvikkjokk to Tarraluopal, where we'll begin hiking after flying over the gorgeous Pärlälvens Fjällurskog valley. From the helicopter, we might spot a moose or possibly a bear.
The following days will be spent hiking primarily off the tourist trail (depending on the weather) and exploring valleys, mountain tops, and summer frozen lakes. We'll sleep in a tent in the wilderness with only wildlife as neighbors, prepare high-quality lyophilized food, and build a fire, but this will only be possible near the conclusion of the trip when there are forests.
You will have the opportunity to learn more about Sami culture and traditions on this expedition. Discover how they live and what makes them so special. We'll discuss plants that are peculiar to this distant Arctic region; some of them are scarcely visible, but they occasionally belong to families of massive trees that thrive in milder climates.
The excursion will end at the base of Áhkká, one of the Sarek's tallest mountain peaks and one of Sweden's top ten. We'll take a boat across the beautiful Akkajaure River to Ritsem, where we'll catch the bus back to Gallivare. We'll unpack our backpacks and say our goodbyes once we've returned to civilisation.
Need to know before you go
Know that the night might be chilly even though the sun will be up all the time. It could even get as low as 0°C at times. The sleeping bags we provide can handle it but some people need some extra under layer clothing. It’s for you to decide.
Have your packing as light as you can. You’ll save energy and have a better time not thinking how much you’re suffering. When packing at home and if you asked me to, you'll have to think that I'll bring food to you for the whole week and that will have to fit it in your backpack. About 2,5kg food + burner and gas + tent and such, etc. Just to give you an idea.
What to bring with you:
- A backpack 80L
- Hiking shoes (one that covers the ankles, waterproof and are made to carry heavy gear)
- Hiking socks 2*2 (a pair made of thin wool and a second made of thicker wool)
- Sandals (no flip flops)
- Hiking trousers (NO jeans)
- A warm sweater for the evening. Wool at best otherwise flees (NO cotton)
- Rain clothes (trousers and jacket, no ski clothing)
- Change of clothes
- Towel (small one)
- Waterproof bag if you have
- A small knife
- Sun cream
- Hat
- Sunglasses (extremely important cause of the snow reflection)
- Mosquito repellent
- Toothbrush and so on (NO soap unless 100% certified natural)
- Lip balm
- Gloves
- Personal medication if any
- Energy bars or nuts (think about your own needs on extra energy)
- Your camera with charger and power bank (no power at all during the whole trip)
Complete this list with what you think is important for you to bring along.
We can arrange your dry food and camping gear, on request.
- No network coverage up there. You’re in the wild
- REMEMBER: carrying light is the key to a nice hike ;)
- You can maybe allow yourself a 300gm book that you'd really like to read during the evenings or something to write your memories on ;)
- This experience requires minimum 4 people. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

What a great experience! We went to a nature reserve in a minivan, hiked through the forest and enjoyed beautiful nature. We spotted many roe deers and hares on the way. Finally, at the end of the tour we were lucky enough to meet a giant moose! Unforgettable moment :). And the guide was amazing! So funny and knowledgable.

Our first kayaking experience and it couldn't be better! Alex was an amazing guide who explained everything well. He also prepared lunch for us on an open fire in the middle of the day (highly appreciated the possibility of a vegan option!). Nature in Sweden is absolutely breathtaking, we enjoyed a full day on water and made a few breaks on little abondoned islands where we jumped into the water for a quick swim and hiked to a little rock for a view. I can only recommend this tour :).

We had a fantastic day kayaking, our group were great and our guide was really friendly and helpful. The island we stopped on for food was picturesque and our cooked meal was delicious! If you like water and a fun time, I’d highly recommend this trip, well worth the money!
