This tour is a wonderful option for anyone interested in visiting one of the world's most impressive archaeological sites with the comfort of a private vehicle and guide.
During the 2 to 2.5 hour drive to Chichen Itza, your expert driver-guide will tell you all about the history and culture of the Yucatan. This overview will also include insights into Mayan culture so that when you arrive at Chichen Itza, you can focus more on architecture and specific facts of this ancient city.
Once you are at Chichen Itza, you will enjoy a private tour with your driver-guide that will cover the main features of this expansive archaeological site. You will learn all about the history and culture of the city, as well as the impressive scientific and architectural achievements that were made in the construction of the many monuments.
After your tour of Chichen Itza, it is time to visit a nearby cenote for a quick swim (swimming is optional). A cenote is a freshwater, underground river that is accessible via a cove or other opening in the ground. The water is cool, clear, and refreshing, and the setting itself is very beautiful. Please note that there are two cenotes in the area, and we will visit the one that works best with the schedule on the day of your tour.
Following the stop at the cenote, it is time for lunch! Or, if you get hungry earlier in the day, you can ask your guide to have a lunch before the stop at the cenote. Either way, you are going to love the food at our favorite restaurant in the Spanish Colonial town of Valladolid. We will be eating local Yucatan dishes just a short walk from the famous Cathedral that opened in the late 1500's.
After your meal (and if time allows), you can enjoy a quick visit to a few of the surrounding shops which feature some local crafts and embroidery. Then we will drive back to your hotel, where we aim to have you back by 5:30-6:00 pm.
