Have you ever wanted to walk James Bond's footsteps? How about Jon Snow's or Batman's? Join a hiking expedition on the Vatnajokull glacier, the biggest glacier in Europe, and you can. The glacier's spectacular landscape has provided scenery for movies and shows, including James Bond, Game of Thrones, and Batman. Hike among stunning ice formations on a trip full of glacier discovery.

You meet your guide at the Skaftafell Visitor Center. Skaftafell is a Nature Reserve set in the Vatnajokull National Park, a protected wilderness hosting snowy mountain peaks, ice caves, and active geothermal areas. The guide provides you with all the equipment you need.

After a short bus ride and a 15-minute walk, you come to the edge of the ice. Following instructions from your guide, you put on your crampons and prepare for the journey.

Stamp your steel spikes into the bright ice as you trek along the glacier. As you hike, your guide tells you about the history and formation of the glacier so you can fully appreciate the beauty. As you ascend higher, you find incredible views of Iceland's high mountain peaks reaching higher than 2,000 m (6,500 ft).

During the 60-90 minutes of adventuring, you'll pass my stunning ice formations. Come face to face with fascinating features such as crevasses, deep cracks in the glacier, and even moulins, openings in the ice formed by melting water finding its way into fissures and cracks. In the winter time, you may be able to peek inside small ice tunnels to witness the pure blue color of the ice.

Experience the frozen beauty unique to glaciers. Vatnajokull National Park will make your eyes wide with surprise when you discover it's natural beauty Jon Snow style.

We didn’t know what to expect. This tour was worth it. We learned a good amount about the glaciers and, sadly, about how they are disappearing. The hiking was easy and the views were fabulous.
