Spend your day in this canyoning paradise full of untouched nature and explore the stream leading to the famous Salto do Cabrito waterfall. No matter your experience level, the adventure of this route can be felt from start to finish.
A 45-minute drive from the meeting point brings you the area of Caldeiras of Ribeira Grande. From here, take a 30-minute walk into the forest bursting with green to get to the starting point. Once you reach a picturesque old bridge, your guide gives a safety briefing, and then the fun begins.
As you hike along the flowing stream, you come across three high obstacles of gorgeous waterfalls, the highest standing at remarkable 15 m (50 ft). Abseil down these rocky cliffs with only the sound of the flowing water and chirping birds around you.
Halfway through the 5-hour journey, the group stops for a light lunch and a rest among the trees. Admire the diverse plant life covering almost every inch of the forest. After the break, continue down the canyon to more waterfalls and more abseils.
The final destination of the route is the Salto do Cabrito waterfall, where you can marvel at the towering flow starting at 40 m (131 ft). After you pass an abandoned hydroelectric plant, depart on the walk back to the starting point.
Sao Miguel’s lush landscape is nothing short of gorgeous. Admire this green paradise beneath the trees as you explore waterfalls and high rock formations from past volcanic explosions. The day goes by in a flash, but your smile from the excitement will stay with you all day.

Incredible experience, we managed to swim with dolphins 5 times. The tour group knew how to find the dolphins and get us into the water to maximise the experience. My partner bruised her body trying to climb back into the boat and they also took the time to treat the bruise upon our return to the mainland.
