With booming waves, the island of Sao Miguel seems to have been made for surfers. But every day, there's always that one perfect surfing spot. This adventure connects you with a local surfing instructor (acting as your personal guide) who knows exactly where to go and when to find the ideal waves for your skill level. All you need to do is have your swimsuit and sunscreen ready!
After he's picked you up, your instructor chats with you to make sure he understands your expectations, your experience, and if you'd like to spend time at multiple beaches to see more of the area. He then drives you to a beach best suited for you and provides all necessary equipment. You will than continue to the selected surfing spot for the day. The sea-time starts with a theory lesson depending on your skill level, followed by the great surfing fun you came for. With our visitors, we usually spend 2-3 hours on the water, depending on their fitness level
Moving around Sao Miguel with a local also means learning about the island's culture and evolution while getting many tips about places to visit. Sao Miguel is the largest island of the Azores archipelago, so there's plenty to explore - like the protected landscape of the Sete Cidades Lake, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal!
You'll most likely want to grab some lunch in-between your surfing. Looking for the most delicious Azorean cuisine on the island? From fresh seafood to Cozida - a meaty dish specific to Sao Miguel prepared by digging a hole in the ground near the famous caldeiras (hot geysers) of Furnas - your instructor knows just where to take you.
After your surfing experience, you will have learned new surfing moves and techniques, and will know and understand the island much more than before. It's a cultural, splashy adventure that you simply can't get without a local who loves sharing his world with travelers.
