Teide National Park is just as impressive on paper as it is in person. The park's centerpiece, Mount Teide, is the highest mountain in all of Spain and the highest peak of the entire Atlantic islands. From its ocean floor base to the very top, Mount Teide reaches up to 7,500 m ( 24,600 ft). Cooled lava from previous explosions created nutrient-rich soil, hosting species unique to the island. Explore the wild plant life and even wilder rock formations on a hike on the mountain. You may choose to take the cable car up and take a short walk or you may hike the Roques de Garcia trail through the mountains landscape. Further descriptions of the trips are below:
Option 1 – Teide Cable Car
Travel up Monte Teide by cable car to reach an elevation of 3,500 m (11,500 ft). From here, you admire views of the park’s rivers of petrified lava and craters dotting the hills. You hike the trails Ruta Mirador de la Fortaleza and Ruta Pico Viejo to pass through colored rock and intricate lava formations. Catch sight of cliffs and a wide caldera caused by past eruptions. In the distance, you see the famous Roque Cinchado, a gravity-defying formation of textured rock layers. From the station, you hike for about 45 minutes along flat trails winding through orange-tinted rock to discover the almost lunar landscape.
Option 2 – Roque de Garcia
If you’d rather focus more on hiking and opt out of the cable car ride, the Roques de Garcia trail leads you through Tenerife’s otherworldly landscape and to more famous natural wonders. Admire the Roque Cinchado's narrow base and red color up close. Continue on the trail to the spectacular Las Cañadas, a caldera of barren orange rock and sand stretching 16 km (10 mi) in width. The 3.5 km (2.2 mi) route passes this towering red formation along with other intricate rocky sculptures. After a nice 2-hour walk, you reach 2,100 m (6,900 ft) above sea level to find marvelous views of Mount Teide.
At the end of both trips, you take a rest and enjoy a picnic with your guide. After you return to the starting point, the shuttle takes you back to your accommodation.
Hike through this UNESCO world heritage site for almost unbelievable natural gems. Mount Teide reaches quite high in the sky, and it might just be the height of your visit to Tenerife.

The Forest is beautiful and the marked trail the guides chose was a beginner to intermediate hike and perfect for our group. The guides were very personable. Lunch was delicious. The visitors center has trail maps so if you want to hike after the excursion and have your own transportation from the visitors center to your hotel it is possible to do this.
