Whales and dolphins fill the waters surrounding the Canary Islands. Some call the area their home and others pass by on their migration routes. With up to 28 species of whales and dolphins populating the water, a whale safari around Tenerife is an excellent chance to spot some of the biggest animals in the sea.
From your hotel, a shuttle brings you to the Puerto Colón harbor on the south end of the island. Your guide greets you and introduces you to your sailboat for the trip. Once you’re off gliding along the sea, take a complimentary beverage so you can fully relax.
As you sail along sparkling waves, the guide provides background information on the environment and the differences between dolphins and whales. For instance, the pilot whale populating the waters around the Canary Islands are actually dolphins! Get the facts and more as you keep your eyes out for flapping fins and glimpses of blowholes.
The three-hour sailing trip takes you out into the sea, where you have stunning views of Tenerife’s mountainous skyline. The final part of the tour brings you to a rocky cove to snorkel or swim among much smaller, but still incredible sea life. Nibble on a picnic onboard or jump in the inviting waters. After everyone has soaked up enough sun, the boat brings you back to the harbor, and you return to your accommodation via shuttle.
Set out on a sailing excursion to watch for the largest wildlife in the ocean. The beauty of the sea is enough to admire, but witnessing a whale in real life leaves you speechless.
